During the calendar year 2020, TDC will consider our call to be a people set apart for God’s purposes. Pastor Aaron will preach on this theme on January 5 and we are inviting the congregation to join TDC staff as we engage in a corporate fast for 21 days, from Sunday, January 12 - Saturday, February 1. Two of the key scriptures guiding our theme for this year are from Peter’s first letter to the early church.
1 Peter 1:15-16
“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 2:9-12
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
We are hoping the whole church will take part in this fast. As you consider this invitation, here are some questions that might guide your decision:
Please plan to join us from Sunday, January 12 through Saturday, February 1 for TDC’s first 21-day corporate fast. The spiritual discipline of fasting helps us quiet our own voice so that we can hear the voice of God more clearly, and move from hearing to obeying. There is power in fasting and praying together. Participation is simple.
If you have never fasted before, here are a couple of resources that can help you get started:
