Small Groups

Small groups are the heart of our church community — we are a church of small groups rather than simply a church with small groups. Small groups are basically gatherings of 8-12 people, typically meeting every week for 1-2 hours in someone's home, where folks spend time studying the Bible, sharing life together, praying for one another, and finding ways to serve our community.

Don't worry if you've never been to a small group before! You won't be put on the spot and asked to (1) pray out loud, (2) read out loud, or (3) answer theological questions. Everyone is at a different place in their spiritual journey and together we are learning what it looks like to be more like Jesus.

Fall groups begin the week of September 8th and will meet until the week of December 14th. You can join a group at any point, as long as they have room.

We have small groups that meet throughout the city, in Maryland, and in Virginia. We encourage you to find a group that is located near where you live or work, or that reflects your current life stage or special interest.

To join a group or learn more, you can use the search below and then contact the leader of the group directly.

For help locating the best group for you, search below or email Julia Northrop, our Discipleship Coordinator, at .

You can use the filters below in blue to sort through small group options by Member Type (Coed, Women, Men, Couples), Area of Town (Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, Maryland & Virginia), and Day of the Week.

AAPI Small Group

Tuesday Evening

Led by Shengxi Li// Every second Tuesday evening of the month// The affinity groups are the District Church's way of providing safe spaces of healing and restoration for people of color, with the ultimate goal of achieving greater unity and understanding within the larger multicultural church body. The AAPI small group convenes the second Tuesday of each month to give AAPI brothers and sisters a space to process and delve deeper into AAPI-specific topics and struggles. Because the group only meets once a month and will be topic-driven, we encourage those interested in this group to also join a neighborhood small group for regular sermon discussion.

Alpha

Tuesday Evening

Are you skeptical of the Christian faith but wanting to explore the beliefs in an open, honest, judgment-free, communal space? Are you considering returning to faith and wanting to understand just what you are committing to? Alpha is a great place for you to be! OR, do you have a friend, a co-worker, or a classmate who would fit either of these questions? Invite them and come with them to Alpha! Alpha is an 10-week series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each week is centered around a meal, a talk and a conversation on a different question: Is there more to life that this? Who is Jesus? Why did he die? Why and how should we pray? What about the church? Alpha kicks off Tuesday, October 1st, from 7-9pm in NW DC at the Arcade Sunshine apartment building (713 Lamont St NW) and will continue weekly on Tuesdays through early December.
