A Devotional on Worship

Posted by Kimberly Williams on

TDC Core Value - Worship - Connecting with God

Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship.

Worship is existing in the presence of God for the purpose of God. All of creation and all of humanity were created for this simple purpose (Colossians 1:16). Worship becomes difficult when we run from the presence of God to the arms of sin and distort the purposes of God to feed our own selfish desires and to accomplish our own will. This has been taking place since the fall. So how do we get back to a place of intimacy and communion with God where we can hear His purpose? By living a life committed to worship.

True worship flows out of us when we allow ourselves to be overcome by the Word, the understanding,  and the presence of God. In order to do these things we must die to our selfish desires every day so that we can make every decision and move forward in every action in view of God’s mercy. Take time to remind yourself of His mercy and grace by singing songs of thanksgiving, hearing stories of what God has done, serving your community and reading the words of Jesus. When we choose to live with this in mind we can achieve His purpose through us in making all of life worship.

Prayer: Oh God you are my God and I will ever praise you. Help me to give my full self to you today, mind, body, and spirit, as a living sacrifice that I might do your will. This is my true worship. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
