Joy Floats - A Poem

Posted by Ajibade Jegede on

We are now entering our third Sunday studying the book of Philippians and learning what it means to find joy - in all things. This poem is inspired by the letter written to the Philippian church and explores how God's love and joy is always with us.

Joy Floats

by Ajibade Jegede, inspired by the book of Philippians

Just when all seems lost

Just when life feels covered in frost

Just as dawn kisses those in darkness lost

Jesus washes over us with sweet solace

Opening us up to an often overlooked place

Over moans of disappointment, loss, even disgrace

Old wounds remind us of that forgotten face

Yes, sometimes we’re lost in old memory’s fears

Yelling, bobbing adrift as the “inner-me” jeers

Yet, even then buried deep…right there

Your birthright like treasure from your joint heir

Yonder Christ’s Holy Spirit brings to bear

JOY floats on a drop of tears

As an ambassador of hope chained to trials and tribulations

It befriends all moment’s challenging and celebrations

While happiness based on fading happenings

Temporarily brings relief for momentary things

Wearing thin like temporary water-painted coats

God’s joy in life’s transient journey transcends… floats
