True generosity starts in the heart with our desire. The church at Corinth said a year earlier that they had the desire to give; now a year later Titus is coming to receive the collection. Paul is urging them to have the same desire they showed previously and to match that desire with the completion of the gift. It’s one thing to have a desire, but that desire is unstoppable when it is matched with action! Jesus perfectly embodies this in his desire for us, “that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor.”
